4 Books I’m Reading Right Now (+ my team’s picks)

After a slow start to my reading year, April has been a GREAT reading month for me and I’ve been flying through books which has been so fun (and good timing as I finalize this year’s Summer Reading Guide which is coming out in a few weeks!).

Here’s what I’m reading right now

Styx and Stones by Gary D. Schmidt and Ron Koertge
You know I’ll read basically anything Gary Schmidt writes and this one based on Greek mythology was a no-brainer as a read aloud for my girls (I got lucky with an advance copy!). Even my youngest, who tends to be very resistant to most read-aloud picks, has enjoyed this one from the second chapter.

Annie Knows Everything by Rachel Wood
This has been a fun, light romance to listen to while I work on my latest puzzle (this one, if you’re curious). This follows Annie who works at a tech company in New York and after a round of layoffs manages to get herself onto a new team where the team lead is way too charming for his good (or hers!).

Big Dumb Eyes by Nate Bargatze
We started listening to this on the road while we were in France and now are finishing it up – it’s a great family listen that has us all chuckling. My girls ask to listen to it every time we get in the car!

Change of Plans by Sarah Dessen
It’s been YEARS since I read a Sarah Dessen book (I think the last one I read was in 2015 when my third baby was born!), but when I got a copy of her newest book, I couldn’t resist. I was head over heels for her writing back in grad school and read every book she’d written up until that point. Makes me feel 22 again to be reading one of her YA novels!

And here’s what my team is reading!

Heart the Lover by Lily King
I was seeing this book everywhere and when it was nonchalantly sitting on the shelf at my library, I abandoned my other current read (sorry Emma M. Lion) and started this one. The story follows a college student who begins dating Sam, who is known for his intelligence and passion for academics. As the story progresses, she becomes close friends with his best friend, Yash, leading to a compelling love triangle and some drama. While the premise may seem familiar, the book feels unique due to its distinct writing style and the way the narrative unfolds.

Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder by Bellamy Rose
I was in a bit of a reading slump, and this one completely pulled me out of it. I couldn’t stop listening (the audiobook was great)! When Pomona, a young hotel heiress, loses access to her trust fund after her grandmother’s murder, she decides to investigate it herself…only to end up broke, on her own, and in way over her head. Along the way, she discovers an unexpected talent, a possible romance, and that money might not be everything after all. This one had me laughing out loud more than once. It was such a fun, fast-paced listen.

The Learning GameThe Learning Game

The Learning Game by Ana Lorena Fábrega
This book really resonated with me, especially as someone who homeschools my kids. Ana Fabrega explains how traditional school can turn learning into a rigid system focused on grades and rules, instead of curiosity and creativity. She encourages a more natural, play-based approach—where kids follow their interests, think independently, and learn through real-life experiences. It was a great reminder to prioritize curiosity, autonomy, and a love of learning over just “doing school right.”

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
