7 places to get audio to make your own Yoto cards!

One of the biggest concerns parents have when they consider a Yoto Player for their child is that they’ll spend a fortune on Yoto cards.

And you absolutely can!

But the good news is that there are a lot of ways to get inexpensive or free audio to put on a Make Your Own Yoto card!

Here are seven of my favorites!

7 Great Places to Get Audio to Make Your Own Yoto Cards

• Yoto App. The Yoto app is free – whether or not you have a Yoto player – and they’re constantly adding new things you can easily link to a Make Your Own Yoto card. Check it frequently and definitely don’t miss their annual Yoto advent with new free audio every day in December!
• Libro.fm. If you’re new to Libro.fm, it’s a lot like Audible except that your monthly membership supports the independent bookstore of your choice instead of Amazon. I have a whole post about Libro.fm here, but the important thing to know is that your audio files are yours forever and super easy to access, no jailbreaking required. And if you are wondering how to get those Libro.fm files on a Yoto card, I have a whole post here. They run deals all the time and you can pick up audiobooks for just a few dollars to make into your own cards!
• Yoto Space. I feel like this is such an underrated resource for getting free audio to fill up your Yoto Make Your Own cards! Yoto Space is the community website for Yoto and there are tons of great options for free audio. Take 10 minutes to poke around on the website and see what will appeal to your kids! Plus because it is Yoto official, it syncs super easily with the Yoto app and Yoto Make Your Own cards.
• Librivox. This is an amazing option for FREE audiobooks! Librivox is a website that offers free audiobooks in the public domain (that means 70 years or older) read by volunteers. Obviously, some readers will be better than others, but you can find some great content here! This link gets you right to the children’s section where you can look around or search for a specific title.
• Freegal. Are you familiar with Freegal? It’s a music service that many libraries provide their patrons with access to (you can check here if your library participates) and you can listen to music through it for free – if you don’t want to pay for Spotify or Amazon Music, it’s a great alternative, although it doesn’t include every song on the planet. And the best part is that your library card gives you access to a certain number of free downloads a week (the number of downloads vary based on your library’s set-up. My library lets me download 3 songs a week). Once you download those songs, they’re yours forever to do what you want with (for personal, non-commercial use). • Rip your own CDs into mp3 files. I know CDs seem to be a thing of the past, but they are a great resource for Make Your Own Yoto Cards! So grab all of your favorite, old CDs and rip them onto Yoto cards for your kids to listen to now! Also, if you are into thrifting, CDs are something to keep your eyes peeled for!
• Record yourself or family members. I absolutely love this option. There’s nothing like a loved one reading a book aloud to you, especially if you don’t live close. Yoto has some fabulous instructions here on how to record your own audio in the Yoto app. This would make a great Christmas gift that would be very memorable and cost close to nothing.
